The Different types of Entrance Tests in India

  • BITSAT:

    BITSAT is a computer-based online entrance test for the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. BITS, a deemed university, is an all-India Institute for advance education. It awards it own degrees. The Institute grants admission for its Integrated First Degree programs on the basis of BITSAT. The BITSAT is common for the Pilani and Goa campus of BITS.

  • AIEEE:

    AIEEE is a national level entrance test for admission to Engineering, and Architecture and planning degree courses offered by various engineering colleges and institutes the country. The exam is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in compliance with the directives of the Government of India. Almost 6, 00,000 candidates take this exam every year.

  • IITJEE:

    The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) conducts a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) every year for admission to its B-Tech and other courses offered at the IIT Mumbai, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Chennai, IIT Kharakpur, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee. Apart from IIT, Institute of Technology- Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and ISM Dhanbad, also consider JEE test scores for their admission process.

    The number of seats available in total is about 5500 for which 3, 00,000 candidates sit every year.

  • CAT:

    Common admission test is a mandatory entrance examination conducted by the India Institutes of Management for granting admission in the management programs of all the six IIMs. Besides IIMs, there are other management schools too, which consider the CAT scores as the main eligibility criteria for enrolling students in their management courses. After successfully clearing the CAT test, you have to clear the group discussion and interview rounds as well to secure a place for yourself in MBA program.

  • MAT:

    ISO 9001:2000 certified All India Management Aptitude Testing Service (AIMATS), New Delhi conducts the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) as the National Entrance Test for admission to MBA and equivalent programmes of the various participating institutes.

    Approved by the Government of India, MAT results are accepted by All India Management Association - Centre for Management Education (AIMA-CME) and other AICTE-approved Management Institutes (MI) and university departments. Besides having test centers all over India, MAT is also conducted in overseas locations.

  • JMET:

    JMET is a qualifying examination for the two-year full-time postgraduate Management degree programmes offered by IISc and IITs in Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai and Roorkee. Usually conducted in December, JMET is organized by IITs on a rotational policy.

    On qualifying, applicants have to apply to the chosen institutes separately. However, you have to meet the eligibility criteria of the institutes as well.

  • SNAP:

    SNAP is short for Symbiosis National Aptitude test. Scores of SNAP is essential for admission into the postgraduate institutes of the Symbiosis International University. Short listed candidates will then have to clear the individual selection process of the Symbiosis Institute from where they desire to undertake their higher education. This test is held under the guidance of SIEC Deemed University.

  • FMS:

    FMS, short for Faculty of Management Studies, is an elite business management institute of Delhi University. It caters to MBA in Management Services (full-time), MBA (full-time/part-time), and MBA in Healthcare Administration (part-time), Management Development courses and Doctoral programs.

  • XAT:

    Every year, the Xavier Labor Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur conducts the Xavier Admission Test (XAT) for admission into the post graduate management programmes at XLRI and a host of premier institutes in India. Primarily developed as a screening test for MBA entrants into the Xavier institutes, XAT scores are now accepted by more than 30 B schools all over the country.

  • PMT:

    CBSE conducts All India Pre-Medical/Pre Dental Entrance Examination (AIPMT) to select candidates for 15% merit positions in medical and dental colleges all over India, according to the directives of the Supreme Court. It follows rules and regulations specified by GOI's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

CBSE prepares merit list equal to the number of seats available for MBBS and BDS courses, under 15% All India Quota. The students selected through AIPMT will secure admission to these seats, overriding State-specific selection criteria.
